Pope Gregory XIII (1502-1585), Aloysius Lilius (c.1510-1576),
and Christopher Clavius (1538-1612) introduce a Gregorian calendar
with an improved leap year system. It is adopted in the Papal
States, Spain and Portugal, then, in December, by France, the
Spanish Netherlands, Denmark and Norway.
