Riots by blacks wrecked Newark, New Jersey on 12-17 July,
killing twenty-six and injuring 1,500; over 1000 people were
arrested. On 23-30, Detroit was rocked by rioting, looting, and
burning in its ghetto. More than 40 people died, 2000 were injured
and 5000 were left homeless.
