Serbia and Bulgaria sign the Peace of Bucharest, formally ending the war that had been fought between the two states the previous November when Serbia had invaded Bulgaria in response to its unification with Eastern Rumelia, but had suffered an unexpected and humiliating defeat. As a result of the Serbo-Bulgarian war, European powers acknowledged the act of Unification of Bulgaria which happened on September 6, 1885.
