Fought at Leipzig in Saxony, 185,000 French troops faced over 300,000 troops from Austria, Prussia, Russia and Sweden. The French lost some 38,000 men killed and wounded, and 30,000 captured. The allies lost 55,000 men. The battle signalled the end of Napoleonic aspirations east of the Rhine.
