Reacting to a British-financed assassination plot discovered in
March 1804, Joseph Fourché, Bonaparte's head of secret police,
suggests that by becoming an Empire with a hereditary Emperor, such
assassination plots will be deterred. Napoleon is only too pleased
to agree.
