The arrest of the Girondins gives rise to provincial rebellions. The Committee of Public Safety controlled by Robespierre and Saint Just will pass death sentences on not only monarchists and nobility but also on moderate Jacobins such as Danton and extreme left critics of Robespierre such as Hébert. (Execution of Hebertists costs the Convention to support of many sans-culottes.)
