The Irish city of Limerick, a stronghold of Jacobite supporters,
capitulates to the Williamite forces. Commander Patrick Sarsfield,
with approximately 10 000 fellow soldiers and 4000 women and
children, leaves Ireland for France to enter the services of Louis
XIV.
