The United States strong arms the USSR into removing its nuclear
missiles from Cuba. A Soviet missile build-up in Cuba was revealed
to the American public on 22 October by President John F. Kennedy.
He also revealed that he had ordered a Naval and air quarantine on
shipments of offensive military equipment to the island. He and
Soviet Premier Nikita Khruschev agreed on 28 October to end the
crisis. On 2 November, Kennedy announced that Soviet missile bases
in Cuba were being dismantled.
