At Newport on the Isle of Wight, Parliamentary negotiators attempt to come to an agreement with Charles I, with talks continuing until November. However, the resultant Treaty of Newport is a failure, since its compromise terms are unacceptable for many more radical MPs, and Charles has little faith in it either, secretly instructing the Marquess of Ormond to disregard any concessions he makes while captive.
