Charles still needed money to pay for his war against the Scots, so he recalled Parliament. Parliament only acquiesced when Charles gave assent to an Act that stated Parliament should meet once every five years. They also demanded the execution of Thomas Wentworth (Earl of Strafford). Oliver Cromwell was elected to Parliament for a second term.
