Edict of Restitution of Church property in Germany, for all property secularised since the Peace of Augsburg, 1555; to be restored to the Catholic Church. This affects the archbishoprics of Magdeburg and Bremen, 12 bishoprics and 120 religious houses. Calvinists, such as the Electors of Saxony and Brandenburg, who were not party. to. the Peace of Augsburg, are thus excluded from the religious settlement. The Edict of Restitution is rigorously enforced in the ensuing months by Wallenstein and the Catholic League.
