Charles asserted his belief in divine right and arrested nine MP
from the House of Commons for offences against the state. These
included Sir John Eliot, Denzil Holles and William Strode. At his
subsequent examination, Eliot refuses to answer the charges against
him, relying on Parliamentary privilege.
