Francis I of France and the Emperor Charles V sign the Treaty of Cambrai, by which France renounces all claims to Italy and sovereignty over Flanders and Artois; Charles renounces his claim to Burgundy. Francis undertakes to marry Eleanor of Portugal, recognises Charles' right to the succession in Gelders, surrenders Tournai and pays 2 million crowns. This, 'The Ladies Peace', confirms Spanish rule in Italy.
