A medieval Greek orthographical lexicon, which is preserved mutilated in only one manuscript deposited in the Vatican Library (Vaticanus graecus 23). [See description of the manuscript in Mercati and Franchi de Cavalieri 1923: 22.] Its compiler(s) and date are at present unknown. Only segments of it have been published so far (Reitzenstein 1892: 8-15; with further discussion and citations in Schneider 1999: 526-572).

An important issue concerning the Antistoecharium Vaticanum (from now on: AV) is the issue of its sources. It had been observed since Reitzenstein (1892: 9) that the AV utilises most probably Hesychius and at least another unknown orthographical and etymological source; another …
