Wu Ming is the name of an Italian writing collective created in 2000 by four members of the Luther Blisset Project (www.lutherblissett.net). After authoring the historical novel Q (1999), the four members stepped out of the LBP project committing, as they wrote, “seppuku”, and founded Wu Ming in Bologna. They baptised themselves using the new pseudonym followed by a number in alphabetical order: Wu Ming 1 (Roberto Bui), Wu Ming 2 (Giovanni Cattabriga), Wu Ming 3 (Luca Di Meo), and Wu Ming 4 (Federico Guglielmi). Wu Ming 5 (Riccardo Pedrini) joined them in the spring of the same year. The number of Wu Ming members has changed twice so far, when Wu Ming 3 and Wu Ming 5, respectively, left the group in 2008 and 2016.
