This is the second Shakespearean comedy filmed by DEFA, the first being Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor (1950). It is filmed almost entirely in the studio, but Sicilian locations are suggested by the intercutting of some establishing scenic shots, obviously filmed at a different time and place, which are of an entirely different quality. The studio sets are nonetheless of good quality and evoke the heat and sunlight of the Mediterranean, conveying a bright summery atmosphere throughout the film.
