In the course of the Second Boer War, the British suffer a defeat at Stormberg. This is to be the first of three humiliating defeats in a single week, with the Battle of Magersfontein the following day, and the Battle of Colenso on 15th December. As a result, this week comes to be known as 'Black Week' for the British.
