The life and career of Rædwald of East Anglia is known principally from Bede's Historia ecclesiastica and the anonymous Whitby Life of Gregory the Great. It has been posited that Rædwald might be the individual interred in mound 1 at Sutton Hoo, an illustrious ship-burial in modern Suffolk.
