Insurrection continues on the Ottoman-controlled island of Crete, which is populated mostly by Greek-speaking Christians seeking union with Greece. European ambassadors draw up a revised scheme which proposes to place Crete under a Christian governor. This is approved by Turkey, and accepted by the insurgents on 12th September.
