USA sends a diplomatic note to Britain, declaring that a modification by force of the boundary between British Guiana and Venezuela would be a violation of the Monroe doctrine. This ruling, which was passed in 1823, declares to intervention or occupation of land in the Americas would be seen as acts of war by the USA.
