The Liberal Party adopts the 'Newcastle Programme', a raft of policies developed by the representatives of the National Liberal Federation at their annual conference. This programme advocates Irish Home Rule, Disestablishment of the Welsh Church, reform of the House of Lords, triennial parliaments, abolition of the plural franchise and a local veto on sales of liquor.
