In the British general election, Conservatives win 316 seats, which forms a majority in partnership (though not a formal coalition) with a group of 78 dissident Liberal Unionists, opposed to their party's support of Irish Home Rule. The main Liberal party gain 191 seats, and the Irish Nationalists win 85. As a result, after three weeks of negotiations, Lord Salisbury forms a Conservative ministry, that remains in government until August 1892.
