In the British general election, the Liberal Party wins 335 seats, the Conservatives 249, and the Irish Home Rule Party 86. Thus no single party possesses enough seats to form a government. However, the Home-Rulers hold the balance of power, and they offer their temporary support to their Conservatives, which form a minority government under Prime Minister Lord Salisbury.
