In Britain, a Redistribution of Seats Bill, which was introduced in February, is enacted into law. This provides London with 37 additional seats, six more for Liverpool, and 16 more for Yorkshire industrial towns. It also merges boroughs with populations of under 15 000 with their respective counties. Thus the overall effect is to enhance the influence of the cities at the expense of smaller rural settlements.
