In France, the monarchist ministry of the Duc de Broglie is forced to resign after it receives a vote of no confidence from the Chamber. Despite an election result of victory for the Republicans, President MacMahon attempts to replace Broglie as prime minister with General Rochebouet, but he also fails to gain the Chamber's confidence, and Julius Dufaure forms a new leftist government.
