South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida and Louisiana hold the Congress of Montgomery. On 8th February they decide to elect Jefferson Davis as President of the Confederate States of America, which is formed the following day. Over the coming two months, they are joined by Arkansas, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
