A British fleet blockades Piraeus, the port of Athens, in an attempt to force Greece to provide compensation to Don Pacifico, a Portuguese Jew who is also a British subject. He had appealed to the British over attacks on his home and possessions he had suffered while living in Athens, during which the Greek police had refused to help him.
