Louis Philippe, King of France, survives an assassination attempt by a Corsican named Giuseppe Fieschi, who had developed a 'machine infernale' which would fire twenty gun barrels simultaneously. Fieschi himself is wounded in the blast, but given medical attention to preserve his life, so he can be put on trial. He is guillotined on 19th February 1836.
