At the Battle of Torgau, Frederick II of Prussia defeats an Austrian force under the command of Field-Marshal Daun, but at the cost of over 16 000 Prussian troops, as well as almost as many Austrians. The Austrians evacuate all of Saxony except the city of Dresden.
