A Russian force under the command of Saltikov defeats a Prussian army at the Battle of Kay (Kije, in present-day Poland). The Prussian commander von Wedel rashly decided to attack the larger Russian army, and in the resulting confrontation, one quarter of the Prussian army of 27 000 is killed.
