At Klosterzeven in Lower Saxony, the British forces under the Duke of Cumberland surrender to Richelieu, the new French commander, and give up Hanover and Brunswick to French occupation. When Cumberland returns to Britain, he is disgraced by his father George II, who replaces him with Ferdinand of Brunswick and refuses to ratify the Convention of Klosterzeven.
