Britain and Spain sign the Convention of the Pardo to settle disputes over the Assiento trade and maritime quarrels. Spain agrees to pay certain damages but refuses to give up her right to search English vessels for smuggled goods, and also dermands unpaid royalties from the South Sea Company. The English representative agrees to recall the British fleet from Spanish waters but subsequently this order is revoked, causing consternation in Spain.
