Partly due to the influence of Spanish negotiator John Baron de Ripperda, Spain and the Holy Roman Empire sign the Treaty of Vienna. This reconciles the two powers, as it guarantees the Habsburgs' Pragmatic Sanction, and by its terms the Austrian Empire relinquishes any claim to the Spanish throne.
