Britain, France and Holland form a Triple Alliance against several joint enemies. These were the intrigues of the Stuart Pretender to the British throne, the Swedish King Charles XII, and Alberoni, the Parmesan Minister at Madrid. While the French promised support against Jacobites, the English agreed to support the French regent Philippe II d'Orleans against Philip of Spain.
