The First Partition Treaty attempts to determine the inheritance of Spanish possessions in the event of the death of King Charles II of Spain. According to its terms, Prince Joseph, son of the Elector of Bavaria, is to inherit Spain, the Spanish Netherlands, and territories in the New World; the Dauphin of France is to gain Naples, Sicily and ports in Tuscany and Guispuscoa, while Milan will be granted to the Archduke Charles.
