The Assembly of Westminster, in which Parliamentary and Scottish Covenanter leaders have been meeting since July, adopts Presbyterianism as the official system of the Church of England, through a document entitled the Solemn League and Covenant. The Solemn League and Covenant was adopted by the Scots Estates on 17 August 1643, and then sworn to by the House of Commons in Westminster on 25 September 1643. The agreement by the Westminster Parliament brought 20,000 Scots to the support of the Parliamentary forces and turned the tide of the Civil War, a joint committee of the two Kingdoms is formed.
