The Peace of Nijmegen ends the Dutch war, drawing up terms between France and Holland. A commercial arrangement favourable to the Dutch replaces the previously hostile tariff policy of French minister Colbert. France restores Maestricht to Holland and Messina to Spain. The treaty restores William of Orange to his lands in the Spanish Netherlands, France, Franche-Comté and the Charolais, but the Dutch lose the Gorée to France.
