The Truce of Andrussov between Russia and Poland ends the Thirteen Years War in which the two states had battled over the territory that now comprises Ukraine and Belarus. Under its terms, Poland gives Smolensk and Kiev to Russia. In Polish history this treaty is often seen as a turning-point that ceded advantage to the burgeoning Russian empire.
