The Province of Holland passes an Act of Exclusion against William III. The Treaty of Westminster, which had ended the First Anglo-Dutch War earlier in the year, had contained a secret clause forbidding any member of the House of Orange from appointment as Stadtholder, and he was the son of William II, Prince of Orange.
