Oliver Cromwell is re-appointed Lieutenant-General of the New Model Army. It was established by him in the spring of 1645 to aid the Parliamentarian cause in the English Civil War. Unlike earlier or other contemporary armies, it was national rather than being tied to any one locality, and was comprised of full-time profesional soldiers.
