Wallenstein, commander of the imperial army, opens negotiations with John George, Elector of Saxony, to reach a peaceful end to what was to become known as the Thirty Years War. He proposes an agreement based on the repeal of the 1629 Edict of Restitution, but the Emperor Ferdinand II refuses to consider repealing this piece of pro-Catholic legislation.
