At the Battle of Breitenfeld, near Leipzig, Count Tilly's imperial army is defeated by Gustavus II of Sweden and a supportive force of Saxon troops. This Protestant victory postpones the implementation of the 1629 Edict of Restitution, which intended to force the restoration of all ecclesiastical property taken by Protestants, in order to resurrect the terms of the 1555 Peace of Augsburg.
