France signs the Treaty of Fontainebleau with Maximilian of Bavaria, leader of the Catholic League. By the terms of this agreement, the League promises to defend the King of France against enemies such as Spain. However, the Emperor, also a longstanding enemy of France, is not included in the agreement, since the Catholic League are currently fighting with the Empire in Germany.
