Gabor Bethlen, Prince of Transylvania, advances on Vienna with his army, threatening this stronghold of Habsburg power. As a result, Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II submits to signing the Treaty of Pressburg with Bethlen. This confirms the terms of the 1621 Peace of Nikolsburg, promising Protestants freedom of worship in Transylvania and securing Bethlen's own power.
