German military commander Count Mansfeld leaves Dover with 12 000 English troops to aid the Elector Palatine. Louis XIII refuses to allow this force to land on French soil, so it lands instead in Holland. However, James I of England refuses to allow his men to aid the Dutch in defending Breda against the Spanish.
