The Bibliotheca Palatina, a collection of books established by the Elector Ottheinrich in the 1550s, is removed from Heidelburg when the city is sacked by the Catholic League. Many of the texts are destroyed or plundered, but Maximilian of Bavaria moves the remainder of the collection to Rome to be added to the Vatican Library.
