Gabor Bethlen, Prince of Transylvania, has signed an alliance with Count Thurn, the leader of the Bohemian nationalists. As a result of this allegiance, he brings an army westwards, capturing Pressburg (Bratislava) and, on 25th October, crossing the Danube to advance on Vienna.
