Charles d' Albret, Duke of Luynes, favourite of Louis XIII, takes charge of the government of France, holding this position until his death in 1621. The Queen Mother, Marie de' Medici, is forced to withdraw to Blois, but gathers round her opponents of Luynes and is joined by Richelieu.
