In France, a rebellion is staged against the Queen Mother and royal minister Concino Concini by the Prince of Condé and Dukes of Nevers, Mayenne and Longueville. There is widespread support for the rebels, since Concini has been promoting highly unpopular policies, including a projected Spanish marriage for Louis XIII. Unlike his predecessor Henry IV's minister the Duke of Sully, he has permitted maladministration by his staff, and failed to summon the States-General as was expected for Louis XIII's coming of age in May.
