Maximilian, Duke and Elector of Bavaria, occupies the imperial city of Donauwörth. A staunch Catholic who had been educated by the Jesuits, he places the ban of the Empire on this predominantly Protestant city in punishment for the disruption of a Catholic process by a popular mob.
